Dr Deon van der Westhuizen qualified as a medical doctor (MB ChB) at the University of Pretoria in 1984 where he graduated with a distinction in general surgery and was awarded the Smith and Nephew prize for the best orthopaedic final year student.Between 1990 and 1994, Dr Van der Westhuizen served as a Registrar in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch, completing both M.Med and FCS (SA) Plastic Surgery degrees.
